Brothers,
Gamma Phi Chapter of Theta Chi hosted an open house for NWU's homecoming weekend on October 5th. After introductions of attendees, Dana Richardson, past national Grand Chapter Theta Chi member, presented Michael Biertzer with the 2024 Reginald E. F. Colley Award. This is the most prestigious individual honor that Theta Chi bestows CONGRATULATIONS BROTHER BIERTZER!!
Gamma Phi President, Louis Gilmore, presented the state of the Fraternity address with more great news that Gamma Phi received the Alter Award which is the highest honor that a chapter can receive. ANOTHER BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!
Alumni Trent Maly gave the building corporation report that there is on-going planning for future house repairs including basement wall repairs and kitchen remodeling but no definite time schedule is required as of now. Brother Maly also had great news that the tax assessment for the house has been greatly reduced from the original assessed valuation by Lancaster county enabling the actives to maintain a reasonable housing
cost.
Alumni Brian Grummert provided an update on the Scholarship Fund with a request for immediate donations to adequately support the current 4.0 actives. The current 33 members of Gamma Phi have a GPA of 3.70 average. Please consider donating to this very worthy cause. Brother Grummert stated that 18 current actives have a GPA of 3.75 or higher. WOW!!
Alumni Greg Bergt reported on the 2024 Gamma Phi reunion in Omaha this past July which was generously hosted by Sid and Sara Meridith. A great time was had by all and we are awaiting to schedule the 2025 reunion at a place and time TBD. Brother Bergt also reported that the memorial fund currently has sufficient funds.
Brother Bergt then acknowledged the passing of four brothers in the past year (Lonnie Slaughter '60,Claude Windgrove '67, David Baisinger '67 and Stan Carlock '77).
The meeting was concluded by a rousing duet of Larry Ruth and David Claus leading a number of Theta Chi songs with all attendees vocalizing in perfect harmony!
The house was then open for homecoming. The honors, awards, recognitions and achievements continue for the men of Gamma Phi. I hope the alumni will continue to support this very extraordinary and exemplary group of collegiate leaders.Gamma Phi Alumni Chair,
Greg Bergt '71
